Best of the Fest Awards for Self-Published Authors
The Collingswood Book Festival is pleased to announce its annual contest
to discover up-and-coming literary talents. This year, we are accepting
submissions in the Children’s Picture Book category.
Deadline for submission is June 14, 2008.
In addition to a $500.00 cash prize, the winner will be promoted at
the Collingswood Book Festival (Saturday, October 4, 2008) and given
time to read from, sign, and sell the book. The author and excerpts
of the winning book will be highlighted on the Collingswood Book Festival
website. In addition, the author and book may be featured in local and
regional publications.
“Children’s Picture Book” submissions will be picture
books for audiences between the ages of 3 and 5.

The Retrospect Best of the Fest Awards
for Self-Published Authors
Contest Rules
1. This competition is free to authors submitting a self-published book.
A self-published book is defined as that to which the author
holds all the rights and for which the author has paid the full cost
of publication or the cost of printing has been paid for by a grant
or as part of a prize. Finalists may be asked to produce proof
of author rights and proof of payment for publication.
2. The competition is open to all English-language self-published books.
3. The author must be an emerging author who has not yet published a
picture book for children aged 3 to 5 years of age with a commercial
or non-profit press.
4. Only books self-published in 2005, 2006, 2007, or 2008 are eligible.
5. Entrants must submit five printed and bound books.
Submitted books will not be returned to the author. The "Best
of the Fest" Awards for Self-Published Author, the Collingswood
Book Festivals, and any sponsors are not responsible for the loss, damage,
or return of any books submitted to the competition. If you wish to
receive confirmation that your entry was received by the deadline, we
recommend using certified mail or some other tracking method to send
your entry. Winners will be notified by email.
6. Entries will be evaluated on content as it relates
to the description of each genre, writing quality, and overall
quality of production and appearance of book. No photocopied
or handwritten books will be considered.
7. The top three submissions will be read to young children and their
parents as part of the Collingswood Public Library’s Storytime
Hour; additional readings to young audiences may also be given. The
reaction of the children and parents will be a factor in choosing the
winner.
8. The winner will be selected by a panel of judges. Only the winner
will be notified. The winner is responsible for travel and accommodation
expenses associated with appearing at the Collingswood Book Festival
and related book signings, speaking events, etc. The winner will be
notified by September 3, 2008.
9. The judges' decisions are final.
10. Entrants may submit more than one entry. All entries must be accompanied
by an Official Entry Form.
11. The winner must appear at the Collingswood
Book Festival to receive the award. This year’s Festival will
be held on October 4, 2008.
12. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older.
13. Entries must be postmarked by June 14, 2008.
