Borough Book Discussion: Triangle: A Novel by Katharine Weber.
A lively discussion of this multi-layered novel will be facilitated
by Library Director Bradley Green in preparation for Katharine Weber’s
appearance at the Book Festival on October 6.
Wednesday, October 3, 11:30am until closing, The Pop Shop, 729

“Dining with Dr. Seuss.” Inspired by the Green Eggs
and Ham Cookbook, The Pop Shop has created a menu of wild and wacky
fare including Daisy-Head Mayzie Burgers, Pink Yink Ink Drink, and,
of course, Green Eggs and Ham! Also Dr. Seuss videos, trivia, and Seuss
character appearances for photo ops! The Green Eggs and Ham Cookbook
will be on sale for $16.95. Proceeds benefit the new playground at Knight
Park.

Sages of Ages Literary Day for the over 50 set. The session includes
speakers on innovative journaling and other fun activities in writing
and reading, an exciting way to create a poem, and a host of mind-teasing
and laugh-filled literary games. Prizes and refreshments furnished by

Marianne Hieb, RSM, “Art-Journaling: A Meditative and Holistic
Journaling Practice.” The author of Inner Journeying through
Art-Journaling, and the Director of Wellness Spirituality at Lourdes
Wellness Center, Marianne will offer an opportunity for participants
to engage in the joy of journaling. Bring a pen and journal to write
in. Other journaling supplies will be provided. Marianne’s book
will be available for purchase and signing at a special Book Festival
price. Registration is suggested in order to provide sufficient materials.

“Rediscover Your Library.” Do you know that your library
has over 64,000 books, audio tapes, DVD’s and other items available
to borrow? Are you aware that if your library doesn’t have a book
you want, it can probably be obtained for you at no cost through an
interlibrary loan? Have you ever visited the New Jersey Room that houses
an extensive collection of local and state historical books, maps, photographs,
blueprints, and high school yearbooks? Do you know that the library
has free Wi-Fi internet access and a staff that will happily assist
you? Take a half hour morning or evening tour and discover what’s
new (and old) at your library. This is a great time to renew or acquire
a library card.

Lauren Grodstein, “Preparing to Publish: Tips for Being a Published
Author.” This workshop will cover editing, deciding when your
work is (finally) done, researching the publishing market, finding an
agent, learning the differences among types of publishers, and promoting
your book. Bring questions about any publishing issue from how to write
a query letter to how to handle a rejection slip.

Gary Earl Ross, “Visualizing Stage and Story: A Playwriting
Workshop.” This interactive workshop will explore several aspects
of developing a story for the stage, from writing effective and revealing
dialogue to developing story and character to conceptualizing the use
of time and stage space. Mr. Ross is a writing professor, playwright,
and Edgar Award winning mystery writer.
