Poetry Tent

An afternoon of poetry was held on Sunday, October 4 at the Scottish Rite Theatre in Collingswood, as part of the Collingswood Book Festival

The free outdoor event included children’s poetry, pandemic-themed haiku, new works from South Jersey poets and culminated in a reading by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Gregory Pardlo. The event included:

  • Winners of the 11th annual Walt Howat Youth Poetry Contest; the complete list of the winners as well as their poems can be found here.

  • A reading by Hainesport award-winning poet Anna Evans

  • Pandemic-themed haiku, featuring The Nick Virgilio Haiku Association

  • South Jersey poets paying tribute to the late Walt Howat, poet and poetry tent founder, with his own poems and works that capture his enduring spirit

  • A reading by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Gregory Pardlo, who is on faculty at Rutgers-Camden
